Unit Introduction

This unit turns insurance vocabulary into a responsible placement process. Begin with the financial problem and the client’s existing resources, then match a product to the need. The application records facts for the insurer; underwriting evaluates those facts; policy delivery gives the client a chance to compare the issued contract with what was requested.

Learning path

  • Needs Analysis and Policy Selection : Personal and business exposures, amount and duration of need, existing resources, affordability, and product fit. Separate a client’s goal from the product that might address it.
  • Application, Underwriting, and Delivery : Application signatures and corrections, initial premium and receipts, risk evaluation, issue decisions, delivery, and replacement awareness. Field underwriting supports accurate submission; the insurer makes the underwriting decision.
  • Consumer Information and Privacy : Medical information, consumer reports, privacy, notices, authorization, and appropriate handling. Learn which questions require a current rule or insurer process instead of an improvised answer.

Apply the unit

A client wants permanent life coverage but describes a mortgage that ends in 15 years and a tight premium budget.

  • State what information belongs in a needs analysis, compare a temporary and permanent design, and identify what must be verified before submitting the application.

Study checkpoint

  • Can you match coverage to a stated risk and time horizon?
  • Can you distinguish a producer’s application role from the insurer’s underwriting role?
  • Can you explain why an issued policy must be reviewed at delivery?
